The Consort by K.A. Linde

I’ve had the chance to get an ARC of The Consort by K.A. Linde.
The Consort is the 3rd book in the Ascension series. If you haven’t started reading this series, here are those beauties.

Here’s the blurb of book #3 :

consort2
After the loss of a friend and false imprisonment in an Eleysian dungeon, Cyrene has no interest in destiny. Her heart was shattered, friends scattered, and her home is nothing but a pretty illusion. Even her magic won’t cooperate.
When all seems lost, she turns to the one person she never thought that she would trust:
Prince Kael.
His darkness mirrors a growing force lurking within her. A struggle she never imagined threatens to consume her. And as friends and foes begin to show their true colors, she starts questioning whether anyone is who they seem.
Even herself.

The book released on October 10th.

God (or Creator as Cyrene would say), I’m completely speechless after finishing reading this book! I can’t believe what I just read. I feel like I just took a breath at the beginning of the book and held it for 468 pages.
The Consort is just absolutely impossible to put down. From page 1, the story hooks you, and doesn’t let you go till the end. And even then I just didn’t want it to finish (basically because it feels just impossible to have to wait for the next book to know what will happen next! The wait for the next book is always so bittersweet for me with this series, that I happen to love more and more with every book).
I’m absolutely in love with the characters K.A. Linde created here, and the way they evolve through every book. She seems to had layers to their personalities, which makes them such complex characters, that even when you feel like you know them, they still manage to surprise you. I think I might have screamed “What?” or “Nooooooo!” or “Oh my god” at pretty much every chapter (and I just checked, there are 63 chapters in the book…). There were so many twists, I thought it was as insane as brilliant. All characters are full of flaws, and you can’t help falling in love wit repeatedly. This book was way darker than the previous ones to me.
I believe what I loved most about The Consort is the strength of the female characters. Cyrene always had a fire in her, a fierceness but I believe in this book, it evolved into something else. I loved the rebellion against the patriarchal system and how it led to her desire of independence.
My favorite character in the series remains Ahlvie, who I love even more than before. He’s in my opinion the character who evolved the most since the beginning (please note that I loved him from the very start, and I’m ridiculously proud of that, as I am proud of the character he has become).
I have no doubt that I will now go through a huge book hangover, which is the ultimate sign of how fantastic this book (and the series too) is.
