The Consort by K.A. Linde

I’ve had the chance to get an ARC of The Consort by K.A. Linde.
The Consort is the 3rd book in the Ascension series. If you haven’t started reading this series, here are those beauties.

Here’s the blurb of book #3 :

consort2
After the loss of a friend and false imprisonment in an Eleysian dungeon, Cyrene has no interest in destiny. Her heart was shattered, friends scattered, and her home is nothing but a pretty illusion. Even her magic won’t cooperate.
When all seems lost, she turns to the one person she never thought that she would trust:
Prince Kael.
His darkness mirrors a growing force lurking within her. A struggle she never imagined threatens to consume her. And as friends and foes begin to show their true colors, she starts questioning whether anyone is who they seem.
Even herself.

The book released on October 10th.

My review

quote
“Betrayal was the name of the game.”

teacupteacupteacupteacupteacup

God (or Creator as Cyrene would say), I’m completely speechless after finishing reading this book! I can’t believe what I just read. I feel like I just took a breath at the beginning of the book and held it for 468 pages.
The Consort is just absolutely impossible to put down. From page 1, the story hooks you, and doesn’t let you go till the end. And even then I just didn’t want it to finish (basically because it feels just impossible to have to wait for the next book to know what will happen next! The wait for the next book is always so bittersweet for me with this series, that I happen to love more and more with every book).
I’m absolutely in love with the characters K.A. Linde created here, and the way they evolve through every book. She seems to had layers to their personalities, which makes them such complex characters, that even when you feel like you know them, they still manage to surprise you. I think I might have screamed “What?” or “Nooooooo!” or “Oh my god” at pretty much every chapter (and I just checked, there are 63 chapters in the book…). There were so many twists, I thought it was as insane as brilliant. All characters are full of flaws, and you can’t help falling in love wit repeatedly. This book was way darker than the previous ones to me.
I believe what I loved most about The Consort is the strength of the female characters. Cyrene always had a fire in her, a fierceness but I believe in this book, it evolved into something else. I loved the rebellion against the patriarchal system and how it led to her desire of independence.
My favorite character in the series remains Ahlvie, who I love even more than before. He’s in my opinion the character who evolved the most since the beginning (please note that I loved him from the very start, and I’m ridiculously proud of that, as I am proud of the character he has become).
I have no doubt that I will now go through a huge book hangover, which is the ultimate sign of how fantastic this book (and the series too) is.

The Wright Mistake by K.A. Linde

I’ve had the chance to get an ARC (advanced reader copy, aka blogger’s holy grail) of The Wright Mistake by K.A. Linde.

wright_mistakeA new stand alone enemies-to-lovers romance by USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…
I spent six weeks screwing Austin Wright’s brains out and all I got was this broken heart.
He can’t be trusted. Not with my body or my heart. Yet, two years have passed and I still crave him like an addict needing a fix.
The last time we tried this, it nearly ruined me. I know I should run and never look back. But his dark haunted eyes and razor blade smile speak to my soul. His touch sets my body on fire. And we all know what happens when you light gasoline. Someone is bound to get burned.
A second chance might destroy us both.
Because everyone knows two wrongs don’t make a Wright.

The book will be available on August 8th.
It’s book #3 in the Wright series (all books are standalones, which means you don’t have to read the previous to understand fully this one. Well except that there’s a continuity in the series between the books, so you might want to start with the previous books, in order not to read any spoilers for the previous books.

My review

“Fuck, she wasn’t giving me what I wanted. I wanted to argue. I wanted her to scream at me, I wanted to feel something, I wanted to stop thinking about what I was fucking dealing with.”

I started this book in a very weird time for me : I’ve kind of lost all interest in contemporary romance novels. I feel like I’ve read a lot of them, and they’re pretty much the same (yeah I know, that’s a depressing analysis). I read blurbs, and feel like I’ve already read the book. So yeah, that’s pretty much my mood lately :
fightclub(But hey don’t leave it’s gonna get better, I promise!)

I love Kyla’s writing but I’m generally more familiar with her fantasy series The Affiliate (if you haven’t read it yet, by the way, do read this series, it’s great!)

Anyway… I’m following Kyla on Facebook, and I love reading what she posts during the process of writing her books. And she was so convincing that Austin and Julia were something else, that she started to wake the once avid romance reader still living somewhere inside me. I signed up for the chance to read it early, and here I am!

And let me tell you that for the first time in what seems a while, I loved a romance book from beginning to end!
Austin and Julia… they were hot (like really really hot), feisty, everyhting I needed.

This book has it all! It’s sexy, intense, but mostly… full of feelings. It made me FEEL so much emotions! It dealt with a lot of subjects, which I won’t enumarate because it could be considered as spoilers, but the thing is… in many books, a lot of issues are added just for the purpose of plot, and are not handled realistically. In this story, K.A. Linde does not use those tricks, she deals with the character’s issues with a real honesty, and I absolutely loved it.

The Wright Mistake is my favorite book in the series so far.

And this is a direct message to K.A. Linde :

The second standalone novel in the YA romantic suspense “Gavert City” series.

SEE ME,
Try as they might…
SEE ME NOT,
Tessa and Luke can’t escape their pasts.

Six years ago, Tessa Gardner’s sister, Mellie, disappeared. Despite lingering guilt and the never ending desire to find her, seventeen-year-old Tessa works hard to keep it together. Her grades are decent, and thanks to her part-time job, she can help pay her family’s bills. But when her childhood crush, seventeen-year-old Luke Simon, rolls back into her small Texan town, he threatens to topple the delicate balance she created. She’s drawn to him—and the way he makes her smile. He’s the only one who seems to understand her, but he’s got a dark past of his own. Even the fake psychics who swear Mellie is still alive tell Tessa that Luke will cause her pain.

Luke Simon knows a thing or two about guilt. He moved in with his uncle to escape his past, but memories threaten to eat him alive. He does what he can to keep his anger in check—quieting his thoughts by making out with one meaningless girl after the next. Tessa, and her long legs and her hard-earned smiles and her kindness is the only girl who’s ever mattered. She’s the one untainted memory he has from his childhood and he could talk to her for hours. He could do anything with her for hours. But the truth about his past might send her running. Or worse.

While Tessa and Luke try their hardest to live in the present, their pasts lurk in the shadows, more intertwined than they could imagine. When the bodies of the fake psychics are found, Tessa realizes that the truth about what happened to Mellie is right around the corner—and it may be too late to save her sister—and herself.

Now, as she heads off to college, Reese realizes she’s remained so hidden inside a book that she’s invisible to everyone, including herself.Kellin Lake has always seen Reese, his little sister’s best friend, the beautiful girl hidden behind baggy clothes and good grades–but he’s hiding, too– even from her. So, guys, I’ve had the chance to read this book and here’s what I thought about it.

Review :

4 stars
Rebel_causeRebel Cause is about Reese, who starts college with her best friend Lindy, and is moving in a house with said best friend, and with Lindy’s brother, whom she has had a crush on forever.

But Reese has been hiding her true personality all her life, trying to fit into the expectations everyone has had of her, and college can be harsh. As she struggles to find her place, and decides to reveal herself, she finds an unexpected ally in Kellin, who helps her elevate her social status.

It turns out they have more in common than they think, as Kellin has also been hiding his true self pretty much his whole life.

First, readers should be warned: Rebel Cause is impossible to put down. Once you’ve started reading it, you’ll be unable to let it go. It’s definitely a page turner.

The book is part of a series of standalones (which means you can read this one without having read Out of Beat and Behind the Lens, but I think there’s a bonus reading them in order, as you’ll be able to get the links between the characters of the different novels.

Cassandra Giovanni has that talent of taking “ordinary” characters (I mean that in a good way, because I could totally identify with them), and transport the reader into their world.

It’s a wonderful love story, but not only… it’s also a story about young adults discovering who they really are, what they want to do with their life, and asserting themselves. Reading the book took me back to my teenager years when I too struggled to free myself from these mental barriers that I had unconsciously built around myself to become the person I thought everyone wanted me to be.

I wish I could have read this book then, I think it would have helped me!

Intriguing, isn’t it? Well you can discover a little more about it with the excerpt below.

Excerpt :

Lindy narrows her eyes at me, and I shake my head.
Maybe it’s a good thing. I don’t need her to think I’m developing something for her brother…or that I’ve always had something for him. I squeeze my fists together until my nails bit into my palms. I look up at Kellin.
I don’t feel anything different than I’ve ever felt around him.
He gives me a smile and comes forward to pull me into his arms, tucking his head into my hair. “I missed you, Ree.”
I smile as I hug him back, the happiness I always feel around him overtaking any of the odd thoughts I’m having away. He pulls away, looking down at me, and I feel like me.
Just me.
“So why haven’t you packed anything?” he asks as he looks around my room, hands in his pockets. He’s wearing the heather blue Henley with the hood I bought him for his birthday. He has the sleeves pushed up, and the buttons undone so his tattoos show in all their glory, but he’ll be able to hide them if my parents come home.
“I don’t know what to bring,” I admit.
“You can bring everything if you want,” Kellin replies, crossing his arms. “It’s our home indefinitely. We don’t have to come back for breaks unless we want to.”
“Good point…I just don’t know where to start,” I reply with a shrug.
Kellin gives me a grin, and my skin heats up as our eyes remain locked on each other. I can’t look away or stop smiling. I finally turn around, grabbing a box as I chastise myself. This is Kellin– KELLIN, my best friend’s brother. My good friend for four years. He’s older. Sexy as hell– damn it! Off limits, Reese!
I take a deep breath as I feel Kellin behind me.
“Let me give you a hand?” he asks, giving me one of those infectious, crooked-kid-like grins.
“It’s an empty box, Kell. I think I can handle it,” I reply, nudging him out of the way.
“You sure about that?” he teases, raising an eyebrow at me.
“Ree? You up there?” Mom calls my name, and I look at Kellin frozen as her hand turns the knob to my door.
I jump on his back, pulling down his sleeves as I do and wrapping my arms around his neck to cover his collarbone. Kellin catches my legs and holds me there just as Mom opens the door.
She blinks a few times at us, and I give her a smile.
“Kellin and Lindy came over to help me pack,” I say.
“I can see that…but why are you on Kellin’s back?” she asks, and I hear Lindy stifle a giggle as Kellin’s arms tighten around my legs in panic.
“I was betting him that he couldn’t pick me up,” I say as I slip one hand under my arm and button the shirt. I slide down his back. “I guess I was wrong!”
Mom looks between Kellin and me before shaking her head. “Well, Reese could really use your help. As you can tell she hasn’t even started thinking about moving yet.”
“I’ve been thinking about it. I just haven’t done anything yet,” I reply.
She rolls her eyes in response. “So I should order a pizza for dinner?”
“That’d be great,” Kellin replies as he opens one of my drawers and immediately closes it, placing his hands behind his head as he purses his lips together.
“Found the underwear drawer?” Mom asks as she smirks at him before shutting the door.
Kellin taps his thumbs against his jeans as he looks around the room. “Uh…thanks for that.”
I nod as I step past him and open the same drawer and start dropping my bras and underwear into the box in front of him. His eyes find the ceiling as his face turns red. “Really, Ree? You couldn’t like wear, I don’t know…normal stuff?”
I look up at him as I drop a pair of black lace boy shorts into the box. “What’s not normal about them?”
He rubs his face. “You practically wear bags as clothing–and then you wear that underneath?”
I pop my hip out as I lock eyes with him. “Do you like it or something?”
Lindy makes a gagging noise behind him. “Could you guys save the flirting for when I’m not around?”
It’s my turn to be embarrassed. I drop the last item into the box and start piling my pajamas, which were pretty close to what I wear every day, on top. Kellin doesn’t respond but grabs another empty box and heads to my closet. He pauses, hand on the knob before looking over his shoulder at me.
“Is there anything I need to be cautious of in here?”
I shake my head. “You found the only thing you really wouldn’t want to see the first drawer you opened.”
Lindy coughs, muttering under her breath, “Who says he didn’t want to see it?”
I watch as Kellin’s eyebrows twitch, his eyes narrowing on his sister. She shoots him a similar look, and I stand in the middle puzzled.
